Who offers college student loans?

College loans are made either by private lenders or by the government. Did you know that the federal government is one of the biggest source of funds for education? Well, now you do. Private lenders may include for-profit organizations, such as banks (Citibank, for example) or non-profit organizations and foundations.

Some students take a combination of private and government loans, while others rely solely on government programs.

If you check with your college’s financial aid office, you may even be able to work out a tuition waiver arrangement or scholarship that could cut your educational burden significantly.

Federal government provides college loans as well

The federal government has designed several programs to help students aspiring to further their educational pursuits. The application process often begins with a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application.

There are basically four categories of college loan programs -- Federal Stafford Loan, Federal PLUS Loan, Federal Graduate PLUS Loan, and Federal Consolidation Loan.

Both Federal and private college loan programs come with advantages and disadvantages, but the Federal government still remains a reliable source of educational support for college students.
Many students use a combination of Federal and private loans to pursue their educational dreams.
