scene at the movies when your neighbor's cell phone rings. How about a
serious business meeting that was disturbed by the ringing of a
colleague's cell phone. Sound familiar? These annoying situations
have necessitated the observance of "cell phone
etiquette." These are not written rules; just common courtesy
that would help.

Lower the volume. Why add to the already unbearable sound pollution? Don't scream while talking on the phone. Your neighbors really don't need to know insider secrets. Music is entertainment, but it surely doesn't have to be from your cell phone. Keep your ringer low enough to not disturb your neighbors while at the same time keeping it high enough to allow you to hear the phone ring. How about keeping your phone on vibrate mode when necessary.

While on a call. The "lag" commonly occurring while speaking from a cell phone could be misunderstood as a lack of interest in the conversation or lack of attention. Don't let that happen to you. Inform the other party that you are on a cell phone.
Respect airtime differences. You may be calling during your free minutes, but what about the other party? You may be calling during their peak time.
While driving. Avoid talking on the cell phone while driving. Accidents may occur if your attention is divided between the steering wheel and the phone. If you must talk, use the hands-free headset.
Your health. Hands-free headsets could also help reduce exposure to radio frequency signals associated with cell phone use. Keeping conversations brief are also a good way to prevent exposure. This may not be cell phone etiquette, cell phone manners, or cell phone rules, but a worthy protection measure for your health.
